Short-stem prostheses have become increasingly popular in recent years. The implantation of a short-stem prosthesis aims to preserve bone and create favorable conditions for revision surgery without altering the fundamental concepts of conventional hip arthroplasty.

Short stem prostheses were developed decades ago to ensure a bone- and soft tissue-sparing implantation approach; in recent years, numerous innovations and modifications have come onto the market.

The concept of modern calcific short stems in hip arthroplasty aims at the precise reconstruction of the individual, anatomical hip geometry. This involves using a bone- and soft-tissue-sparing implantation technique in conjunction with physiological loading in the periarticular part of the femur to preserve the bone in the long term.

The short and round stems are ideally suited to the minimally invasive ALMIS approach ; muscle damage is not necessary. Unlike conventional straight stems, implantation is achieved using the "round the corner" technique.
